What Happened to Noxzema Shaving Cream?

Shaving causes nicks, cuts, and ingrown hairs, so a decent shaving cream is a wise investment. Noxzema shaving cream is top of the list for their shaving products that came out in the 1970s. These shaving creams have left the market but not unnoticeably.

Fans of Noxzema shaving cream are looking for the last supplies of the product. Consequently, with high demand and low stock, sellers are increasing the price.

The original pricing for an 11oz can of Noxzema shaving cream was around $6.30. You can expect to pay $30 to $80 per can for the last of this product.

Noxzema Shaving Cream For Sensitive Skin

Noxzema shaving cream has been a holy grail primarily for those with sensitive skin. According to users, it worked well for reducing discomfort and bumps after shaving.

Furthermore, it protected the most delicate areas of the skin. Although the cream caught the attention of men, both men and women found it irreplaceable.

Not only did it help with the aftermath of shaving, but it also left the driest skin moisturized. Moreover, long-term users now feel nostalgia and loss as the product had become a part of a skincare tradition.

Currently, in stores and online, you can find Noxzema razors and shaving gels. However, with the lack of advertisement, could these be phasing out as well?

Who Makes Noxzema Shaving Cream?

Unilever, which presently owns the Noxzema brand, supplied the renowned shaving creams. The early proprietors of the brand were Procter & Gamble and then Alberto Culver. Formerly, there was a website dedicated to Noxzema shaving goods, but it is no longer up and running.

You can expect to find a variety of products for facial cleansing and blemishes on their current website. Shaving goods, however, are not offered on the website.

Unilever, a global company, is dedicated to making sustainable living commonplace which is their company motto. Thus, developing goods that are both safe and wholesome for consumers. In addition, they are advocates for improving social and environmental issues.

What Happened to Noxzema Shaving Cream?

There has been no recent public explanation as to what caused the discontinuation of Noxzema shaving cream. Classic Clean Deep Cleansing Cream, a cool minty cleanser, is their most known product.

Perhaps with the popularity of this product, the shaving line was no longer essential.

EWG’s Skin Deep scientists ranked Noxzema Shaving Medicated Shave for Sensitive Skin ( the 2016 formulation), a rating of 5 on a scale of 1-10.

Concerns in the report were that the fragrance would pose a risk regarding allergies and immunotoxicity. Additionally, ingredients Blue 1 (CI 42090), Potassium Hydroxide, and Sodium Hydroxide, classified as being use restricted.

These ingredients can be found in other skin and hair care products and are allowed under the FDA in small amounts.

3.Protective Shave Cocoa Butter

4.Noxzema Regular Shave Cream

5.Protective Shave Menthol

With such a premium brand out of the market, consumers wonder, what is the next best replacement? Well, if you are looking to stick with products under Unilever, then the Dollar Shave Club may be worth trying out.

Dollar shave club was founded in 2012 and acquired by Unilever in 2016. In addressing shaving and sensitive skin issues, the brand sells shaving butter, pre-shave scrubs, and post-shave mists.

We compiled a list of three comparable shaving creams for sensitive skin.

1.Barbasol Soothing Aloe is made up of only a few ingredients and comes at an economical price. Barbasol has a series of shaving foams, including one for sensitive skin. However, users seem to prefer Soothing Aloe.

.The Art of Shaving Cream is free of synthetics and alcohol. Sandalwood is an enjoyed scent in the shaving cream line. However, unscented cream is available for sensitive skin.

3. Gillette Foamy Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream produces a sufficient amount of lather, allowing easy glide and less friction. The fragrance is minimally incorporated to provide a fresh smell. Additionally, Gillette is under Proctor & Gamble, the original owners of the Noxzema brand.

Noxzema Commercials in the 1970s

“Let Noxzema cream your face, so the razor don’t!”. This slogan dominated Noxzema commercial ads back in the 1970s. It was a short and catchy jingle remembered years after the advert left the air.

Perhaps a good example of effective marketing!

The stars of the commercials were Swedish model and actress Gunilla Knutson who played Katrina Lund in the 1969 movie “Gilbert Grows Up”.

A separate commercial featured Farrah Faucet, famous for her appearances on “I Dream of Jeannie” in 1965 and “The Flying Nun” in 1967. Joe Namath, the male actor, was a sports icon of the 1960s and the leading quarterback for the Jets.

Stock the Shelves

In closing, the use of a good shaving cream can be the difference between bumpy and smooth skin. Additionally, shaving is still cherished among other hair removal techniques because it’s easy, quick, and pain-free.

Once on the affordable side, Noxzema Shaving Cream was a product that delivered as promise for most people. It stopped irritation and left the skin moisturized.

The last few cans represent an era missed. For long- term buyers, a shelf space is open for the next best shaving cream.
