What Aging Gracefully Really Means

The beauty in aging is that it’s our universal connection to all things living, a place of resonance. When I was younger, I was told “you’re growing up” more times than I can count.

After reaching a certain age, being told your growing up becomes offensive. As the years go on, it eventually turns into “you’re getting old”!

Which often remains a thought in our head at the first appearance of gray hair or a wrinkle. Not many people directly say, “you’re getting old!” out loud.

It happens in subtle ways like not asking for your i.d. or suggesting particular health exams. Aging is a countdown, examined by beauty, health, and wisdom.

To hear “you’re aging gracefully” means you have excelled in one or more of these areas. In contrast, to common perceptions of that age group.

Aging Gracefully In Beauty

The beauty I speak of encompasses style and fashion. It’s the way you rock your hair, the blend of makeup on your face, and the type of clothes you wear. If you have teens, you may have got the notification that “you’re dressing too young for your age”.

Outfits become too revealing, and some brands are no longer for you. Mom and dad have no reason to dress trendy.

When teens reach your maturity, they will understand you can be forever 21, 22, 23 in your looks!

I am personally inspired and rooting when I see someone who doesn’t let their age keep them in a box. Aging is on the individual’s terms, without fear of being judged.

Most importantly, they are living to live and not to die! These moguls have a fashion sense that defies time.

 Aging Gracefully in Health

Aging gracefully in health is being mindful of the internal and physical conditions of your body. Staying on top of mental health, food intake, and exercising, reduces the physical signs of aging.

Professional athletes are a fine depiction of people who age gracefully through health. They follow an eating regimen to improve endurance and keep them in the game!

Working out keeps their body toned, reducing saggy skin, often seen in older adults. They exhibit vibrant energy like they can run a marathon any day!

Aging Gracefully in Wisdom

Intellectual people age gracefully in wisdom. They rarely make the same mistake over and over again. Advantageously, they use those mistakes to educate and inform others.

They have a lot to offer and are vocal about the way they live their life. The triumph is evident in their mannerisms.

They fought past life difficulties that could’ve limited their growth.

Take Care of Yourself, and Age Like Wine!

Wear what makes you feel youthful! Not to be mistaken for outfits that are too tight and don’t fit. Try a trending hairstyle, and rock those new aviators.

You’re still that fashionista at any age!

Slow down aging symptoms by reducing stress through meditation and art therapy. A thought can trigger reactions in the body, overstimulating the fight & flight response.

Issues begin to arise from excess cortisol, which you don’t need! Consciously take your mind off of negative thoughts and give your body time to regenerate.

My favorite stress reducer is Zen Tangle, the process of creating a collage of patterns to distract the mind.

Apply moisturizers and retinol to improve the texture of your skin and increase collagen. Visit a doctor and dentist at least once yearly to get a scan of what’s going on internally.

Guessing can only take you so far. Take your multi-vitamins and limit junk food.

Commit to an exercise routine, challenge yourself to work out every day! Start healthy challenges with free printable pdfs to plan and track your progress.

Stay educating yourself! Take risks and grow from your failures.

Read books to spark your creativity and increase your vocabulary. Watch online courses to implement new skills, and share your knowledge with others.
